The irony of that post - as it was Vauxhall who closed the production plant in the town that had basically kept Luton on the map to begin with, laying off 30,000 people directly and probably as many again ancilliary workers and suppliers indirectly - should not be lost ...

this was discussed on Sky Sports earlier today...Phil Thompson inevitably felt Liverpool could use the request as a PR exercise but thought Luton were wrong in putting Liverpool in such a public quandary...

at the time I was unaware of the source of Lutons request..if the above article is the basis then its hardly conclusive evidence that Luton are indeed making a serious appeal for Liverpool to waive their fees for this game...

Thompson was also of the opinion that Luton football club brought this financial mess upon themselves therefore all those still associated with the club are culpable for the fall out..

Luton are currently under investigation for bungs and corruption so it's difficult to have a huge amount of sympathy for them.

This looks like a fairly obvious attempt to embarrass Liverpool into giving them some money.

i would applaud myself for such irony, in mentioning vauxhall viva, if i had done it deliberately.
unfortunately, i was just thinking of my first car, a vauxhall viva, which was a rust bucket and money pit of the first order.

Well, for me, Luton will always be the club with the Tory MP chairman that tried, in essence, to turn the football watching experience into a day out at Centre Court - plastic pitch, rip out the main stand to build executive boxes, ban away fans, discourage anything other than polite applause and the rustling of strawberry punnets.

Mind you, they did beat Arsenal in the most exciting League Cup Final of all time, so it's hard to completely hate them.

it really isn't that hard. tiny seats, horrificly stupid fans, david preece, plastic pitch, portacabins and mike newell should get you going.

I find it really hard to hate any club properly these days, knowing so many fans from different places.

I'll hate Luton again when they beat Liverpool this afternoon. Actually, I won't, I'll hate Liverpool just that little bit more, but that's the way we all "project", isn't it.

It's a strange day when a club that's £30m in debt has to ask a team that's £220m in debt for money.

Exactly!

Quite how they managed to get to that level of debt given the talented players they have sold, especially having been in administration only recently.
