Amazing what death can do for a career. George Harrison straight in at no.5.

I know it's daft to complain about pointless exercises like this one, but 'Don't You Want Me' by the Human League and 'Ghost Town' by the Specials should be in any top ten of number 1 singles, but neither even make the top 100.

What a dreadful, dreadful list.

Still, black people at least can feel flattered that they've managed to get one entry into the top 30 (Marvin Gaye at 29) and two in the top 50 overall (Louis Armstrong at no. 49). A creditable rating but up against Cockney Rebel, The Monkees and Queen & David Bowie's "Under Pressure" they could hardly expect to have done any better. Sorry, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder but some people (Bonnie Tyler) have it. You don't.

I've said it before and I've said it again. The general public are a bunch of cloth-eared, dead-eyed, gormless w ankers.

I'm with the wingco - I mean, what is the purpose of all these lists that inevitably result in middle England enforcing its cr*p taste on everyone, eh? I cannot state how delighted I am to see nothing since 1990 seems to have made the list - and I'm probably older than most people who voted, if anyone actually did. (I refuse to acknowledge 'A Little Less Conversation' as post-1990.)

Oh no, my mistake! 'Innuendo' by Queen at #36! (I mean, come on, even by Queen standards...)

When are people going to get over Abba and Queen, eh? This mind-numbing endless 'School Disco' mentality we're forced to exist within almost makes me want to open a vein...

It will surprise nobody that I agree with wingco on the appalling lack of recognition black artists receive in lists such as these. But, on a point of order, I wish to point out that Stevie Wonder would have been eligible only with "I JUst Called To Say I Love You", and Aretha with that duet she did with George Michael.

Deplorable though some of the entries are, maybe some recognition is due for he fact that neither of Lady In Red, The Power Of Love (Jennifer Rush), I Will Always Love You, I Should Have Known better by Jim Diamond or Star Trekking made the list.

Oh, I dont know - a couple of those on the list might have displayed an element of humour by voters..?
