Francis Pym, among other things a Defence Sec and Foreign Sec under Thatcher and a perceived leader of the 'wets', has croaked.

He's related to a husband of a friend of my wife's. Apparently. Didn't he have an ancestor involved in the Civil War?

Fair point. Except, as far as I'm aware, mine weren't mentioned in the subsequent history books.

Excellent thread title. Worthy of Cyclops in Private Eye.

I imagine the majority of the population's lives were not immediately affected by the civil war itself.

Good thread title. Though personally I would have gone for:

Absolutely the war itself. An incredibly divisive, disruptive event which was the cause of a mind-boggling level of death and suffering over a period of several years. To the extent that it's hard to believe that it took place on the green and pleasant soil of Britain.

He's a descendant of John Pym, of Long Parliament and Solemn League and Covenant fame.

SR's falling into the trap of thinking little people matter in history! You fool!
