First Pessotto, now this.

Is it a bad time to be running football, or a tragic coincidence?

Tragic for everyone. There was a lot of comment here in Italy about how what was essentially his work had really put Berlin back on the map as a truly world class city.

Separate suicide notes is a particularly cruel and unusual twist.

Pessotto seems to be doing all right, though he was not able to watch the final as had been hoped.

RIP, indeed.

His son said yesterday that this was a "personal decision" of his father and that the family would very much appreciate it if the media refrained from any speculation as to the "reasons" or other sensational reporting.

I hope that wish is honoured.

Perhaps, though I would disagree.

Of course Kiessling had nothing to do with what happened on the field. What heightens the tragedy in this particular tragic case is that what he was responsible for were the Fan Fests and related activities, which seem from this distance to have been a brilliant success.

Pessotto has stabilised, by the way. Canavarro brought the World Cup by during his visit the other day.

In that generality, I am wrong, of course. Let's not use this thread to discuss the quality of the tournament though.
