2-3. Cannavaro header. All getting a bit loco now, and not even half time. Palop worryingly slightly at fault for the goals, and as I feared, the defence not entirely gelling. Still, hmm, should be able to see it out without conceding three in the second half ...

Lodzu (or any of the other Spain-based posters), what's your take on this mess with "Granada 74" in the Segunda?

The RFEF and Liga seem perfectly happy with them having bought their right to promotion from Ciudad de Murcia, but FIFA seems quite vexed, and is supposed to be taking them to the TAS in Lausanne.

It's quite Italianate, having a club's right to play in a given division being challenged a few days before the season starts. In fact, it seems a bit strange that we don't have one of those cases (or any points deductions) here this year.

You would think there'd be clear rules about this sort of thing. Evidently not. It does taste a bit funny that a club can just buy a place in a higher division, but then again maybe that's just the way it is in a league that isn't centrally controlled.

Marca are reporting that Real Madrid have decided that the answer to giving up five goals to Sevilla at the Bernabeu is . . .

to sign Diego Milito from Zaragoza for 25 million euros.

Am I going mad? Didn't he sign for Barca this summer?

Oops, wrong Milito. Not the first time and won't be the last time I mix them up.

Wrong Milito. Barca signed Gabriel Milito.

Diego Milito is the forward who used to be at Genoa, after beginning his career at Racing in Argentina.

But don't worry, as are saying that they are really after Ibrahimovic.

So, does anyone know what is being built when they knock down the Calderon? Because I heard a rumour the other week that it was going to be a park. So, then surely the club have sold to the local council, just as Real Madrid did when they sold their training ground. Which evens things out I suppose.

It's supposed to be a park, but the whole deal is very opaque (what a shock). Atleti are supposed to get ownership of the Peineta after 2016 (as the city thinks they are getting the Olympics), and isn't at all clear to me what they get in the interim, who pays for the rebuilding of the Peineta, or what Mahou (who are giving up the brewery across the road) get out of it.

Though it does seem that the Mahou site is going to be redeveloped (the park will only be on the Calderon site), so perhaps that is the way everything is supposed to be funded.
