BTW, what is it with the Liga and fights between teammates? Yesterday it was Depor's turn, with the two keepers going at it and Aoute ending up the worse, with a black eye and eight stitches.
Atlético de Madrid - Valencia X

The Madrid Marathon has changed quite a lot since you did it, Rick. It does go up the Castellana for the first 5k, and, yes, you have to put up with the terrible stink half-way up on the right...

As for hills, some nasty ones - up C/ Príncipe de Vergara from km.22 to 25, then a monster around C/ Arturo Soria and C/ Alcalá, again, about 3 kms long...

I did it in 2006 and 2007, and it was different both times - this year it's changing again, and radically this time.

As for Mahou Clásica, in Oviedo it's the staple of vending machines and petrol stations. At about 2 cents cheaper than Mahou Cinco Estrellas, I can't really see why anyone would bother with it. There are loads of better, cheaper beers on offer to the discerning pisshead.

Little did I realize that my casual mention of Mahou Clasica would raise such ire and scorn on OTF. May it be blamed on SuperSol, whose only 500ml beer can in my local store is the aforementioned drink ... Anyway, got five in the fridge and waiting for Athletic-Sevilla - the push for a Champions League place must continue ...

Sevilla 1-0 down to Athletic at half-time - a really scrappy game ... will have to rely on a tattoo-powered comeback from Chevanton in the second half ...

... which never materialized, as we crumbled 2-0. How can a team like that expect to be challenging for La Liga and the Champions League?

AS's opening line in the Atletico - Valencia match preview is to the effect of:

quote:
The two most suicidal clubs in the world meet in a game that could represent a change of cycle
Precis: that Valencia, with their Monty Python-esque chairmain, and Atletico, with some good results if not performances are going to swap their recent places.

Valencia's nightmare continues, they lose 1-0.

And Zaragoza have fired Victor Fernandez.

Valencia played well though and deserved at least a draw. Despite everything there is a fair amount of optimism around Mestalla! Hildebrand, Zigic and Arizmendi (at right back) all played well, Ever Banega came on and made a good impression.

Was at Levante- Real Madrid. The toads matched Madrid for 70 minutes, it was only a dodgy penalty that put RM ahead, they were blessed really.

Hildebrand played well? He cost them the goal and did his usual trick of making the save seem more spectacular and more difficult than it is. He has terrible technique.

Valencia were lifeless in the first half but improved a lot in the second half when they made a couple of substitutions and changed their shape slightly. They should have forced an equaliser. Aguero looked very good for Atletico.

Ha! Lovely - Madrid knocked out of the Copa by Mallorca. That's their Triple Corona buggered - only they had the arrogance to even consider it. Presidente Calderón had apparently offered them 900,000€ apiece to win all three major competitions. He'll have to launder his dodgy money elsewhere now.

The upside of the Copa being a flawed competition is that Valencia are now in the last eight without barely lifting a finger. A tasty tie vs Atletico awaits. I would love a cup final for us even if it will be on a Wednesday.
