Benfica-Milan is the one to watch, because on close up of this lad, you'll be taken back to the funky 70's

Yes, particularly when the man from the Joy Of Sex books is in the background.

Ronaldo is now endorsing some sort of anti-baldness cure in Brazil.

I think his current look is more suited to becoming the public face of this classic American product:

The 2004 John Kennedy would have dealt with that.

Not to worry. Plenty of time left to overcome these petrodollar bastards . . .

Awful piece of cuntish injury-feigning by Srna, pretending to be half-maimed after a Jarosik cross came into contact with the side of his head.

Celtic starting to play a bit now.

ursus, you know they have the Chia Heads now:

 -

You used to know it was Christmas time when the Chia Pet commercials started, along with the Clapper. I always felt sorry for anyone that got either of those as an actual Christmas present.

JVOH heads inches wide after great work on the right from McGeady. He's due a goal in a big game.

This referee is another Kenny Clark -- insanely pedantic and with no grasp of the random nuances of football at all. As I'm typing that, as if to prove my point, he penalises Donati for a great tackle which got the ball cleanly.

Brandao's a twat.

Shakhtar are a good side and they pass the ball well, but some of the diving and timewasting would make you sick.

Celtic can still turn this around, they've opened Shakhtar up enough times already to be confident of scoring a couple before the end.

Jarosik! Have some of that, you cheating bastards!

Five minutes of injury time at the end of the half says it all.

Jarosik heads wide of a gaping goal. Worse than Kevin Keegan in the Bernabeu in 1982 . . .

A minute earlier, a Shakhtar player shoved Scott Brown in the face right in front of the ref, who ignored it. This lot have some real assholes playing for them.

Evening all.

Stroke is exaggerating slightly, but Shakhtar have been a bit negative after their good start. Although they kept Celtic pinned in their own box for about five minutes with a series of corners.

If there's so much dodgy money over there, why are Kiev so bad?

I'm not exaggerating. Shakhtar are taking the piss with their rolling around and writhing and leg-clutching, especially their Brazilian players. It's a pity because they're a talented team, their passing is broadly better than Celtic and they are making cleverer runs.

But Celtic were more purposeful for the majority of the first half, and will win if they keep it up.

I'm watching this on Setanta and it's doing my head in. Lou Macari is hopelessly biased. He's obsessed with Shakhtar's 'antics'. It's like giving the microphone to one of the supporters with blinkered vision on the happenings.

That said, Shakhtar are milking whatever contact they receive, but Celtic are playing into their hands by obliging them with a number of needless, over-physical fouls. Scott Brown, in particular, is guilty of this. When a team is chasing the game, like Celtic is, against a team who want nothing more than the game to be stopped time and time again, like Shakhtar do, you don't tear into tackles and increase the risk of conceding a free-kick. Yet this has been Celtic's response.

Al, the referee's been crap. A minute ago Paul Hartley blocked a Shakhtar player near the corner flag and he gave the free to Celtic.

The fouls you mention were nothing more than the routine challenges which happen during any game. At times, as mentioned above, Celtic have been penalised for getting the ball purely because the Shakhtar player acted as if he had been disembowelled.

Scott Brown clearly took the legs from under one of the Brazilians legs. He exaggerated the effect of this, but it doesn't get away from the fact that it was a clear foul.

Shakhtar have been milking these situations, no doubt about it, but they've been mostly on occasions when a foul, no matter how trivial, has been committed.

The referee sees the foul and calls it. Subsequent play-acting has nothing to do with this.
