I agree. The only way it'll happen is if RBS turn around and say "no" to the refinancing, or if Gillett refuses to sign up.

What makes you think DIC is looking for a profit? I'd have thought they were more in the Abramovich camp, looking for a prestige buy. Something to hang next to the Picasso in the palace.

Look...

What about it?

We have been spinning coins together since I don't know when... and in all that time, if it is all that time, one hundred and fifty seven coins spun... consecutively have come down heads. One hundred and fifty seven consecutive times, and all you can do is play with your food?

Wait a minute. There was a messenger. "Hicks!... Gillett!" We were sent for. That's why we're here. Travelling a matter of extreme urgency... a royal summons, his very words... official business no questions asked, up we get and off at the gallop,
fearful lest we come too late!

Too late for what?

How would I know? We haven't got there yet.

antonio - if that were the case, they wouldn't have pulled out of the deal last january saying "we won't overpay for assets."

Dunno, garcia; there is a lot more information about the potential cash flows on the table now.

And if (as the Guardian reports) they really did offer 300 million last week and if the source of the 350 million "asked" price floated today is Hicks/Gillet or their bankers (as I strongly suspect), then a deal at 325 million is not at all unlikely.

if an analysis of potential cash flows leads DIC to conclude that they can make money even after paying 325 million for the club, then surely a refinanced G&H can make money too.

The investment horizons, expectations and other committments are different, garcia.

If that wasn't the case, no one would ever be able to sell an asset of this type.

We're really missing Gareth Barry. The lack of a midfield is really hurting us - means that the quick ball to release Young just isn't happening.

The Americans at both Anfield and Old Trafford have wanted out since last summer. The shit'll hit the fan soon and when it does they want to be miles away.

As I see it, Gillet would have been more comfortable buying the club himself, but never had the funds and therefore needed Hicks. He has, however, found himself unable to control either Hicks' loose cannon characteristics or the credit crunch that has hurt Hicks a lot more than it has hurt him.

That's the way it's being interpreted over here. Gillet would like to keep a controlling interest. Whether or not the DIC group would let him is the question.
