So, after months of slog the UEFA Cup starts to resemble a proper cup competition.

The more Euro-aware OTFers know much more about most of these teams than me.

Any clues as to who is any good? Getafe looked OK when they beat Spurs in the group stage but not good enough to win it.

Anderlecht v Bayern Munich
Bayer Leverkusen v Hamburg
Benfica v Getafe
Bolton v Sporting
Fiorentina v Everton
Marseille v Zenit St Petersburg
Rangers v Werder Bremen
Tottenham v PSV

As for Spurs there seems to be a school of thought that Ramos can make it a hat-trick of UEFA Cup wins. Personally I think our fragile centre halves will do for us at some stage.

I've got a sneaking feeling Everton may get to the final.

Looking at that line-up, the UEFA Cup is a much more interesting competition than the Champions League these days. A Fiorentina-Werder Bremen final would be great.

Bayern and Bremen should be good enough to see off all the other sides.

The final will be interesting if a British club gets there, as each side will only get 13,000 tickets at the City of Manchester stadium.

Apparently Barry Ferguson will overtake David Narey's record of 77 Euro appearances if he plays tonight.
Of course you didn't get 'group stages' or a bye into another tournament in Sasha's day. Sigh.

Yeah, Narey's record is pheonomenal, and considerably more impressive than Ferguson's.

When did the UEFA Cup move to ITV1? Oh, hang on. Spurs.

Meanwhile, Bayern safely through, 4-0 up in Brussels as we speak.

Rangers almost open the scoring after a minute. Great shot and save.

Jaaskelainen injures himself in the warm-up. Al Habsi takes over. Hopefully he can continue from his last two European performances, in Munich and Belgrade.

Bayern have hammered Anderlecht 5-0 in a one-sided affair. This is Anderlecht's heaviest home defeat of their European history.

No. Neither is there commentary on the radio. The Bolton board decide that one of the biggest games in the club's history against very illustrious opposition and £5 a ticket isn't sufficient enough to fill the ground, so have turned down two offers for TV coverage, even though the game was as good as sold out before these offers apparently materialised.

This is why English clubs should be vetted on how big they are before being allowed to play in Europe.

A snippet of information from someone covering the game from the BBC is that we're making Sporting Lisbon look very ordinary.

PSV one up. Farfan scoreso on the break. Shocking mistake from Gilberto, whose contributions to the game have been getting booked for pulling Farfan back when clean through, and the assist.
