quote:
GRETNA PRESS CONFERENCE:

Players are free to move to another club if they wish. Players are considering their positions

In December, that statement might have actually meant something.

I wouldn't like to tell poor Brooks Mileson what's been going on while he's been ill!

The BBC are reporting that Gretna currently only have 10 players willing to play Aberdeen on Saturday. The other players seems to be, understandably, a bit concerned that they would be playing without having been paid and without any insurance. According to that article the current plan is to get the Aberdeen game postponed and with their next game at home to Celtic that might provide them with enough money for wages and other essential costs.

I'll play for them this weekend, if they want. Mind you, they'd have to pay my train fare up there, so, ummm...

Having survived the weekend with a 3-0 loss at Aberdeen, Gretna's next two home games will be played 92 miles away at Livingston.

The next home game is against Celtic, whose supporters are supposed to bail out Gretna for the rest of the season.

SPL rules about not sharing with a club in another league have been thrown out the window. Of course very sensible but the same rule kept Falkirk out of the SPL when their ground was getting built.

If we are going to break the rules, how about letting Gretna play ten miles away in Carlisle?

I was impressed by that 3-0 defeat at Aberdeen. Especially as Sky Sports News was indicating that they were one-up at half-time...

And of course almost bankrupted St.Mirren and Thistle building ultimately pointless grandstands.

The SPL are a fucking joke.

Roddy Collins is trying to get his foot in the door, with talk of "a shot in the dark" and "pointing an arrow in the direction of Gretna".

Expect to see them propping up the Highland league three years from now.

Is Roddy Collins the 'Irish consortium' mentioned on the radio yesterday?

I was puzzled by the deal being dependent on a hotel as part of the package. Do they expect hordes of supporters to descend on Raydale? Why not just build the hotel and be done with it?

Highland League, eh?

South of Scotland League or East of Scotland league if they are feeling ambitious.

Might they not try re-entering the English pyramid? Can't see them being allowed though, much like Rhyl's failed attempts a few seasons ago.

Roddy Collins has also been mentioned in connection with the Millers.

According to the radio report yesterday, they were looking at three other clubs. I took that to mean Scottish clubs, but I guess not.

Yeah, Gretna is about as far away from the Highlands as you can be while still being in Scotland.
