Oh, c'mon centurion. Think the soup nazi in Seinfeld, I wasn't being serious with the nazi thing at all, quite the contrary. I was trying to be funny, and obviously it didn't work.

Post a picture of a tastefully shot scantily-clad woman in 80s lighting, someone, and see what happens.

If Runwank is ganja, I'm going to rip his nuts off. Well, at least send several tons of faked pornographic material involving Paolo Maldini and Henrik Larsson to his company directors' e-mail address, which he doesn't realise is printed on the back of the envelopes he sends me every week with the "Forza Everton" postcards.

If Runwank isn't, well, I'm still disappointed. Disappointed more for us all, really. For society. Disappointed that we have reached a stage where children can have been brought up to hold opinions so bizarre, and so unacceptable to decent mainstream human society, that the only career paths available for them will be as priests or high court judges.

brilliant, brilliant.

The Beatles are for people who liked white sliced bread. Kingsmill, admittedly, but white sliced bread nevertheless.

anyway, has anyone explained what makes this thread anything other than a list of people's favourite (short-ish) songs?

Er... they have to have been released as a single? That's about it I think. Look, if we need ways to waste our time, who are you to stop us?

well, fair enough. it's just that i'd rather read someone's explanation of why one particular single is so remarkable, than an unannotated list of fifteen favourites.

Major, if you're going to suggest some kind of convoluted knock-out or Eurovision-based contest, I'd forget it.

On reflection, of my choices,

THIS

would walk it.

Both of them dead, too. (Well, Shane's still technically up and walking about, but you know what I mean).

I think that this isn't about our *favourite* songs - well, mine certainly isn't anyway.

What it should be about is about songs/singles (not necessarily 7"s, either - a track can be 8 minutes long and still perfectly balanced) that when you get them out to play them, make you grin to yourself. You know precisely what's going to come out of the speakers, but it's what rushes through your veins that is almost inexplicable - pure joy-fuelled adrenaline. Take "Primary" by The Cure from my list - it's actually almost completely interchangeable with "Public Image" (another great song) or "I Will Follow", musically-speaking, but there's something about its own 3-4 minutes of perfection that - like those other two, too - makes you want to bounce around the room. *That's* how you know you're onto a classic single!

Now enough silly bickering and start mentioning singles that give you that gleeful high!
