Awww Reed it's way too early, 80100 degrees outside. I can't get my head around the CFL yet never mind the NFL. It's baseball weather, give me a shake in October.

I'm so sick of hearing about baseball and golf (golf ferchristsakes) that I'm excited to watch even NFL pre-season games. The season begins Sept. 4.

I have lived here in Boston 14 years (as I have said so many times I must stop) and I have never been to an NFL game. I never watch NFL. I have never watched a Superbowl (great time to go to the Cinema). I never went downtown to watch the parade for the Patsies when they won the Superbowl (I came into work earlier to avoid the downtown hordes).

I hate gridball, carryball pointyball.

Sorry to pointlessly rant on your thread Reed. It's hot as hell and the Red Sox can't get over the hump - those Yankees are not the great team of the past few years and we are blowing it !

AFC West
Oakland
Kansas City
San Diego
Denver

The only division I pay any attention to. Seeing as I agree with you on this, I'll plump for the same picks as you in the other divisions too.

I used to love the '49ers in the Montana/Young, Jerry Rice era, they were so exciting to watch.

But they went poor just as my teenage fascination with American football waned (I went to all of the London Monarchs games at Wembley!).

So what I was wondering is are they any good now?
I know that they haven't featured in a Superbowl for ages but are they contenders again?

Seems as good a time as any to remind people about this.

New England is pretty much an American football wasteland, the Patriots notwithstanding. Once you get a feel for it (that may take many years) you'll find its a million times more interesting than baseball. On TV, the NFL is the best. In person, the NFL experience is somewhat overrun with commercialism and long delays for no reason (see IMP's reflections on the time I took him to see the Skins-Cowboys).

The 49ers are pretty good these days, but not likely to win the Super Bowl this year. They have the best receiver in the league, Tyrell Owens, and ex-CFLer Jeff Garcia at QB. They fired Mariucci last year for no particularly good reason.

What are the Saints' chances of reaching the playoffs this season?

If anyone in the fantasy league has Michael Vick on their team, they better change quarterbacks fast.

Bravo, PD. I was going to mention this too. Six spots left...

I landed the first pick in both my other leagues, and chose Michael Vick. Bollocks. Bollocks, bollocks, bollocks.

Are you actually supposed to do anything before the draft? It seems like all there was to do was sign up. Am I missing something? I feel like these fantasy games are deliberately designed to be difficult to follow (in the set up phase).

Fret not. I'm waiting for the remaining spots to fill up, then I'll sort the draft out and will be happy to answer all queries and whatnot.
