What do you do? Old Mother SSS does a bad-ass Xmas dinner. Turkey? Yeah, we've got turkey. It's in there somewhere. We've got most farmyard animals represented on there. I mean, we've got sausages wrapped in bacon nestling next to a chicken on the over shelf below the beef joint. We've got honey glazed gammon and lamb chops.

It's a serious business, Xmas dinner back home. Only the strong survive.

Predictably my vegetarian mother was unhappy with my choice of a Spanish restaurant for Christmas lunch.

Instead she has nominated me chef on the 25th. It will be just her, me, and the shitzu.

Hmmm, roast shitzu ... always best with a parsnip and oregano stuffing, I find.

That would certainly make the preparation less daunting.

We've never gone for goose. I might suggest it for next year. We're all eating out this year for reasons both too complex and boring to go into here.

I fancy factoring in some Ostritch, though maybe that's not very Xmassy. But it would fit right in with the general meatpocalypse.

Goose. Has to be goose. Every time. Particularly as you're probably bloated on dry, flavourless turkey from various dreadful corporate or canteen dinners by the time Christmas itself comes around.

Game casserole for Christmas eve. Roast beef for boxing day. But goose on the day itself.

We kill a random neighbour and roast him over an open fire fuelled by the parquet flooring stolen from the closest Serbian family.

We’re black teethed, evil, cannibal, Nazi’s scum, us Croats.

May I just say, SSS, that I went down to the bookie and he wouldn’t even allow me to bet 50p on someone on OTF starting a thread within 6 hours about “meat”

Yes, but it's not about being clever Ganja, it's about being first. And I was first, god damn it.

So you do believe in god after all, or only when you want to put a curse on an issue?

Ha!

And aren't you supposed to drop the X/Christ from the holiday's name. You might be offending minorities, you know.

Anyway, for our winterfest dinner it will be gammon from our sude. Without a doubt one sister-in-law will make a lamb curry, and someone will roast a piece of silverside, or something.
