Is Taylor a posh name in America? The only other British Taylors I've ever been aware of are mostly pretty lowly of birth. Fag-in-mouth mums in shops shouting "Taylor! Put that down!" Always makes me look up.

That's happening now with a lot of posh names, though - lumpen proletariat trying to give their kids some "class". Jade is the classic example, I suppose. No one has pointed out to these people that it's actually an old euphemism for a prostitute.

Incidentally, one of Talk Talk was called Timothy Frieze-Green, which is pretty damn posh if you ask me.

'Twas a boy. (Actually, come to think of it his sister was/is renowned British artist, Tacita Dean.)

I met Ptolemy Dean while working for English Heritage. I thought 'he must have got stick at school, but it was likely Eton or Harrow'.

Taylor isn't as posh in America as Connor, for example, but it's fairly posh. Tyler, however it seems, is not so posh.

Taylor as a girls name is definitely posh in America along with Morgan, Mackenzie and a few others. About ten years ago Brittany, Tara and Lindsay seemed a bit posh, but no longer.

My partner is pregnant and the name issue is difficult. she is of italian parentage and i am (of course) welsh

its a sodding nightmare. such a thin line between chav and pretentious posh. Its a tightrope spud

My mum (in all seriousness) suggested george to which we both laughed. I say Nick or Trevor and be done with it it. unless its a girl of course
