Why is the knee-jerk reaction to groan at a pun?

Q: Come across anything interesting on your walk with the dog?
A: Nah, same old familiar faeces.

Puns are invariably preceded by the word "bad". Very rarely do you ever hear of a "good pun".

I think society's attitude toward the pun needs to be changed, and would take comfort in hearing from anyone who agrees with me.

If a pun is the lowest form of wit, is a bun the lowest form of wheat?

Yeah.
But it's not getting much response. I had high hopes.

I love puns. Working as a subeditor I live for puns. It's the only thing that keeps me relatively sane. Pun day at a time sweet Jesus.

I love a good pun, me.

As I suggested here, though, they are seldom well met in a professional environment...

Nah, I'm only marginally invested. My Nano thread is really picking up steam, though. I see it hitting a hundred by week's end. Especially if I post 93 follow ups.

Most puns are crap because folk will insist on chucking them about like confetti. (I hesitate in pointing out any such on this very thread...)
