Surely, if a country goes nine (9!!) months without a government, it's proof that democracy itself is no longer central to the functioning of the state, right?

How long do you think the UK could go without a government, in a pinch?

Canada? Belgium? Are you here to help OTFers with insomnia?

(next up: Denmark's municipal elections - will the Pedestrian Crossing Petition be decisive?)

I can't sleep for shit at the moment. These threads aren't helping, and nor is tintin.com.

Poutine, dammit.

Lookit,

1) It is no longer "Canada". That was our old name, given to us by our colonial masters and its continued use simply reinforces our former colonial status. It is now "The NPS".

2) Belgians are catholic, aren`t they? On Otf, I would have thought that was good for 5 pages right there.

Democracy clearly isn't central to the functioning of a state over a historically short time period. It's central to preventing, or at least limiting, the decay of the state into rampant corruption and the exercise of power for its own sake over a period of decades or centuries in less fast paced times.
