Paw Broon, what comics do you read?

I'm a collector myself.

octopus, was ingrams a tedious bore even in his prime in the 70s? i agree he's in a sad state nowadays but surely he must have had something going for him? i assumed that time had withered him, like brian clough

Ingrams has been a fogey for as long as I can remember, and I ought to be able to remember about a fortnight further back than our many-tentacl'd chum. Not as much of an objectionable reactionary as Charles Moore, nor a cartoon buffoon like Boris Johnson, but a fogey nonetheless. He was a television critic for years before he condescended to buy a TV set.

Three reasons

1 - He's had the benefit of the best education money can buy, so despite being as thick as two short planks, he can carry off a pretence of intelligence. Not a very good one, but just good enough to fool just enough people.

2 - He's had the benefit of the best education money can buy, so he's been able to make influential friends.

3 - There are enough vacuous people out there at both ends of the media chain who think that self-professed eccentricity equates to having something worthwhile to say. They are wrong. Self-professed eccentrics are, by and large, the biggest pains in the arse in the world.
