Murray lost today in the first round of the Rotterdam tournament to a wildcard called Robin Haase... and had no excuses!

Two tournament wins, two first round defeats this year. Mr Consistency he ain't. Back down to 11 or 12 in next weeks rankings, then.

But Murray is in good company losing early in Rotterdam. ALL the seeds had been knocked out before the quarter-finals. And that includes Nadal, Davydenko and Ferrer amongst others. Tursunov, Hewitt, Ljubicic and Kohlschreiber also all went out in the first round, all four of them being unseeded due to the strength of the draw.

Yes. He's out of practice and Murray is a grinder and won't get far playing like that. Dearie me...

He doesn't take losing with particular grace, does he? Part of why he is so succesful.

Anyway, Murray 'beat' Verdasco in R2. More accurately Verdasco managed to lose before Murray did. Neither cope at all with a very gusty wind, which might have been hard to play in but they should have managed more. The final rally summed up the match, both players bunting the ball gently down the centre of the court, for >30 strokes, before one of them, under no real pressure, hit way long. Poor.

Yeah, and do you know why he lost? Because he chose to stand way behind the baseline, playing almost entirely defensive tennis.
For three games at the start of the second set Murray stepped up the court and tried to attack, dictating the pace of the game. He won them all. Having done that, he retreated back way behind the baseline, and lost 6 of the next 7 and the match.

Maybe we should take Roger Federer's opinions more seriously. If he isn't an expert, I don't know who might be.
