I don't know if we've done this, but there's some good stuff on the web.

Like this rarity of indoor lacrosse from 1931. They didn't wear helmets!

Terrific. Now I just need time to watch them.

I think I've mentioned this before, but I used to watch Box Lacrosse from the Six Nations Reservations on the public television station in New York in the mid to late 60s. It was in black in white, and no one wore helmets (the goalies may have had masks, but I'm not even sure they all did).

The "AFL" clip appears to actually predate the AFL. It's the VFL Grand Final from 1970, Carlton vs. Collingwood.

And needless to say, the Cubs lost the '29 World Series (including blowing a 8-0 lead in one game).

The 1970 Grand Final is widely regarded as the greatest ever. Working class Collingwood and white collar Carlton were the biggest rivals in the VFL and the crowd of 121,696 is the biggest ever for a sporting event at the MCG (the MCG's record crowd turned up to see Billy Graham!).

Collingwood led by 44 points at half time when Carlton coach Ron Barassi told his players to do something revolutionary in the second half - don't kick the ball, just run and hand pass. Carlton won by 10 points.

Ukrainian born Alex Jesaulenko had his place in history for taking the mark of the century further cemented 2 or 3 years ago when the mark was recreated in a Toyota ad. After that, every "speccy" that was taken in a school playground was greeted with a shout of "Jesaulenko, you beauty."

That's a great story Arab, and it sounds like an absolute classic game. I was also wondering what Jesaulenko's heritage was (the mark itself has Jordanesque "hangtime" elements).

Try matching your Billy Graham piece of trivia with one from Yankee Stadium, where the attendance record is held by the Jehovah's Witnesses.

I take it there's no "over the back" rule in Aussie Rules.

Yeah, I was thinking that, much easier to get hang-time if you can do it on someone's back! The original leap is colossal though.

You're not allowed to place your hands on an opponent's back to gain leverage (although that controversial rule is only a couple of years old) but you can place the knee, or any anything else other than hands, on the back to get lift off.

It looks as though the Blackhawks are playing Toronto St Patricks in that old hockey clip. If so then it has to be earlier than 1929 as Conn Smythe changed the name and uniform in 1927.

Love the ice-sweepers!

That sort of looks like a big shamrock on their sweaters, but as far as I can tell, the St. Pats never had that logo. Perhaps a long lost "third jersey?"

http://www.tmlfever.com/LeafsLogoHistory.html

Or maybe its not the NHL at all. The poster thinks it's the Blackhawks because it sort of looks like their old sweaters, but I can't tell for sure.

You're right. A bit of research digs up this.

Which looks OK except the name of the city isn't visible. I don't think it's the Blackhawks from 1929 either. Their uniforms were black and white and, judging from the tonal values, there's at least one other colour involved.

I did some more.

Given that the poster thinks its in Chicago, it's probably the Chicago Shamrocks of the brief AHA.

Their opponent could be the Kansas City Play Mors

Note the somewhat racist comment at the end.
